Netherlands: ABB Power Grids has confirmed a deal to build a substation for the 357 MW Zeewolde repowering project in the Netherlands.

The substation will feed power from 91 turbines via a 6.5 km cable into the national grid. ABB will also supply two transformers that will be placed near the substation.

Construction will start later this year and the unit, which will also be used to deliver power from other wind and solar projects, will be up and running in 2020.

The new 3.5 MW turbines will replace 220 older single turbine sites in the province of Flevoland that will all be removed by 2026.

The wind farm is being developed by Windpark Zeewolde, a group of almost 200 locals, landowners and farmers.

First power is expected in the autumn of 2020.
