New York to invest $28 M in key transmission project
NYPA approved $28 M to begin work on upgrades to a key high-voltage transmission line between the town of Marcy and the town of New Scotland.
US, New York: The New York Power Authority (NYPA) approved $28 M to begin work on upgrades to a key high-voltage transmission line between the town of Marcy in Oneida County and the town of New Scotland in Albany County.
The project is a joint venture between the NYPA and a company called LS Power Grid New York.
The transmission line upgrades are needed in part to bring renewable energy from upstate to areas downstate. Currently bottlenecks in the high-voltage electric transmission system make it difficult to move renewable energy from wind farms and dams to Albany and downstate.
The upgrades are occurring along 161 km (100 miles) of transmission lines and include the construction of two new substations.
