India: The Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) has said that they will replace old transformers with special design transformers by the end of June.

“We have dedicated a budget. So far, we have identified around 3,000 locations and have relocated or replaced 2,611 transformers. We will complete all 3,000 by the end of June and will continue to identify more such transformers,” said Bescom Managing Director C. Shikha.

The new design transformers are compact and raised to a certain height, eliminating the danger of passers-by coming in contact with them.

Bescom decided to invest in the new transformers after several years of being found responsible for transformer related deaths and accidents. They hope the changes will make the roads safer for their customers.
