USA, Michigan: The nuclear reactor at DTE’s Fermi 2 nuclear power plant on Lake Erie was shut down yesterday to replace one of the plant’s two main transformers.

According to Guy D. Cerullo, Manager of Nuclear Communications for DTE, the transformer was not working properly after the restart following recent refueling outage.

“The transformer is located outside and separate from the reactor. We found it was not working properly after the restart.” Mr Cerullo explained. A spare transformer located at the power plant will be installed as a replacement by Fermi 2 and DTE Energy workers, reports Monroe News.

The shutdown will not impact consumers. It won’t affect customers’ power.” Mr Cerullo said. “Other plants can pick up the slack. Customers should see no difference.”
