USA: An underground transformer fire exploded causing power outages in South Norwalk.

The force from the blow blew open the doors guarding a sidewalk electrical vault and sent thick black smoke billowing into the sky.

The fire caused a major power outage in downtown SoNo as well as a water main break around Dock Road.

It also forced the closure of North Main Street for about two hours.

There were no injuries in the blast, though there was at least one close call.

Norwalk firefighters and South Norwalk Electric Works crews quickly contained the fire once power was cut to the area.
