Mexico, Tamaulipas: Since extreme temperatures have been recorded, electricity consumption increased by almost 30 %, which caused transformer failures in the area.

Gabriel Navarro, superintendent of the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), said that four thousand new consumers in Ciudad Victoria have contributed to the increased demand for electricity in the area, reports Conexión Total.

Navarro pointed out that due to the increased electricity demand, 12,000 transformer failures have been registered so the CFE is constantly monitoring their operation and service life.

He said that as a precaution, the CFE replaced transformers in various areas, especially where the service life of the transformers was over. Navarro explained that the lifespan of a transformer is 20 to 30 years, depending on the manufacturer. As the population grows, the number of consumers also increases and the transformers need to be replaced to meet the required load.
