USA, Pennsylvania: An underground transformer fire has caused power loss for thousands of customers in downtown Philadelphia.

PECO officials said two underground transformers apparently blew at around 3 p.m. Tuesday. As a result, about 4,000 PECO customers in the area lost power, reports Newsworks.

Firefighters and PECO workers arrived at the scene Tuesday evening and were trying to determine the cause of the incident. PECO officials said another problem occurred shortly after the incident a few blocks away at an underground transformer in the area of 15th and Waverly streets. There were no reported injuries.
