Two transformer explosions reported at John Amos Plant in Putnam County

USA, West Virginia: A power transformer caught on fire and caused two explosions at the John Amos Plant in Putnam County, reported Putnam County Sheriff Steve DeWeese.

USA, West Virginia: A power transformer caught on fire and caused two explosions at the John Amos Plant in Putnam County, reported Putnam County Sheriff Steve DeWeese.

The explosions were reported about 12:30 p.m. at one of the plant’s large transformers, reports WSAZ. The firefighters with the Winfield Volunteer Fire Department were able to put out the fire. According to Sheriff Steve DeWeese, no one was injured and there are no chemicals nearby.

A spokesperson with AEP reported to WSAZ that incident did not cause any local power outages. The emergency crews are still on the scene and the smoke is still pouring from the transformer which caught fire.
