Toledo Energy installs large power transformers to improve grid reliability in summer

USA, Ohio: Toledo Edison (a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp.) is completing the testing of new power transformers installed at two large substations that will help enhance service reliability in the area and meet the expected increase in power demand in the summer.
Massive 345 kV power transformers have been installed at Toledo Edison substations near Sylvania and Oregon with the investment of about a $ 15 million, reports The Wall Street Journal.
“These new transformers will have a direct impact in making service for our customers more reliable. This equipment will provide additional support for our transmission system as we enter peak demand time during the summer.” said Linda Moss, regional president of Toledo Edison.
The company has also been performing inspections using “thermovision” cameras to capture infrared images that can detect potential problems with power transformers and capacitors. By identifying hot spots, maintenance and repairs can be conducted prior to a power outage occurring.
