USA, Michigan: About 70 gallons of oil leaked out of a power transformer at the Palisades Nuclear Power Plant near South Haven on Thursday.

According to Viktoria Mitling, senior public affairs officer for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the oil leak did not impact power production or the reactor itself at 27780 Blue Star Highway in Covert Township. The oil was not released to any surface water and has no drain path to reach any surface water, reports Holland Sentinel.

The transformer functions between offsite power lines and Palisades electrical equipment. It lowers the incoming voltage so it can be used at the plant. The incident comes about a month before a public meeting on the facility’s recent federal assessment.
