ZESCO to invest $ 480 million in power projects in Lusaka

Zambia, Lusaka: ZESCO Limited announced it will invest about $ 480 million in Lusaka’s power distribution projects.

Zambia, Lusaka: ZESCO Limited announced it will invest about $ 480 million in Lusaka’s power distribution projects.
 
According to Managing Director, Cyprian Chitundu, the projects will involve upgrade and establishment of substations and power transformers, and replacement of obsolete power equipment in Lusaka between 2014 and 2019.

The projects have been ongoing for five years and are aimed at enhancing energy in the province.

Mr Chitundu said the projects will include establishment of the $ 2.6 million Zesco/Levy Business Park substation, $ 3.2 million substation and 11 kV switch yard in Makeni, and upgrade of the Ngwerere substation and installation of new power transformers.

“Zesco Limited is also constructing a new substation in Katuba and constructing a new switch station at Freedom Park to cost $ 2.7 million each. For a long time, consumers have complained about power outages and these projects will address the power outages.” Mr Chitundu observed.
