India, Ahmedabad: Adani Transmission Ltd (ATL) has reportedly emerged as the successful bidder for an intrastate power transmission project in Madhya Pradesh.

The bidding was conducted by REC Power Transmission Company Ltd (RECPTCL), a subsidiary of REC Ltd (formerly, Rural Electrification Corporation).

According to reports, ATL got the better of other contenders that included Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd, Torrent Power, Sterlite Power and Dilip Buildcon.

Information available from official sources indicates that the project special purpose vehicle (SPV) is MP Power Transmission Package-I Ltd. This SPV, incorporated in August 2020, is currently a wholly owned subsidiary of RECPTCL and will be transferred to the successful bidder in due course.

The project aims at strengthening the intrastate power transmission network in Madhya Pradesh. Power demand in MP had reached 14,555 MW in FY20. This is expected to grow to 18,000 MW by FY22 and further to 21,000 MW by FY27.

In the first package, 17 new substations will be built. The total project outlay is estimated at $178 M (Rs.1,300 crore).

The overall project also has a second package for which the project SPV is MP Power Transmission Package-II Ltd. This project is also being developed on the same lines as the first. The second package has around 18 substations and associated transmission lines. RECPTCL is the bid process coordinator and it is learnt that the same bidders (as in the first) are in the fray for the second package but the results are yet awaited.
