In 2022, global investment in battery energy storage surpassed US$20 billion, with grid-scale deployment accounting for over 65% of total investments. Market projections suggest the sector could reach between US$120 billion and US$150 billion by 2030.

Leading companies in this burgeoning market include Tesla, Fluence (an AES and Siemens joint venture), CATL, LG Energy Solution, and BYD. These firms are distinguished by their technological innovations, global presence, and significant market share.

BESS applications are diverse:
