Cambodia approves electricity projects worth $830 M

Cambodia, Phnom Penh: The Cambodian government has approved more than $830 M worth electricity infrastructure projects.

Cambodia, Phnom Penh: The Cambodian government has approved more than $830 M worth electricity infrastructure projects.

The projects include 150 MW hydropower dam and a 256 MW coal-fired power station, as well as three transmission lines. Stung Tatai Leu dam will be built on the upper reaches of the Tatai River in by the Chinese state-owned China National Heavy Machinery Corp. The $389.4 M project is expected to generate an average of 527 GWh per year, with the electricity sold to state-run electricity supplier Electricite du Cambodge at $0.0792 / kWh.

Meanwhile, two 500 kV transmission lines will be built, one 199.52 km and another of 107 km long, worth $330.46 M and $110.94 M, respectively. Cambodian Government spokesman Phay Siphan said a plan has been put in place to trim electricity prices once a year since 2016, when the development of the national grid and large power sources steadily began to blossom.
