Canada, The Maritimes: The government of Canada has announced that it will invest $21.25 M to help develop a new electric transmission line in the Maritimes to support wind energy production.

The money is from the Investing in Canada Infrastructure programme.

The province of Prince Edward Island will also provide $22.75 M for the project that is designed to move electricity from a planned wind farm in the province.

The Skinners Pond transmission line will run 106 km (65.9 mi) from Sherbrooke to Skinners Pond and will support future wind generation projects in western Prince Edward Island, officials said.

Once completed, the transmission line will increase the province’s ability to manage 40 MW from the planned Skinners Pond Windfarm planned for 2025 and provide connectivity to the Sherbrooke substation to the northeast of Summerside.

“The new Skinners Pond transmission line will support Prince Edward island’s production of green energy,” said Bobby Morrissey, a member of Parliament for Egmont, in a statement.
