Pakistan: The first large-scale power transmission project of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor started the transmission.

The project that was undertaken by China’s State Grid transmits power from Pakistan’s Matiari–Lahore ±660kV HVDC Transmission Line. It indicates that the project has entered the stage of large-load power transmission.

The Murrah DC transmission project is the only power transmission project among the priority projects of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. It is also Pakistan’s first high-voltage DC transmission project. The executing company China Electric Power Equipment and Technology Co. Ltd. (State Grid Corporation of China) started the construction of the large-load power transmission project in December 2018, which has been recently completed and commissioned.

“Within this project, we have successfully completed all 181 tests on 5 June 2021. During the power and the overload tests, the DC system maintained stable operation and the equipment performance was excellent. The project is scheduled for formal commissioning of commercial operation on 1 September 2021,” said Wang Bo, deputy CEO of Pak Matiari-Lahore Transmission Company of the State Grid Corporation of China.
