UK: Collett Transport, in partnership with IQA Elecnor Group, has transported and installed a 148-tonne transformer at Neilston Grid Stability Facility in Scotland. Collett utilized a 250-tonne girder bridge trailer and heavy-duty jacking and skidding equipment for a project at KGV Dock in Glasgow.

After offloading project cargo from a vessel, Collett managed all port handling operations under CPA contract lift conditions. The project involved a detailed route survey, identifying necessary civil works and street furniture removals, and coordination with local councils. The girder frame and beams were assembled around the transformer, forming a 16-axle configuration. After transporting the transformer with a police escort, it was transhipped to a 14-axle trailer and moved onto its final plinth using hydraulic jacking and skidding equipment.

David Sanz Delgado, Project Manager, from IQA Elecnor Group commented, “This is a major milestone in our Neilston Grid Stability Project as part of National Grid’s Pathfinder Programme, Phase II. The delivery of the 148-ton generator Step-up Transformer marks a significant step forward in our journey towards enhancing grid stability and reliability. This Synchronous Condenser will play a crucial role in ensuring a more resilient and efficient power system for years to come. A huge thanks to everyone who worked so hard on this phase. Your dedication and effort have been instrumental in achieving this success.”
