Serbia: Elektromontaža Srbije (EMS) picked Kodar Elektromontaža and Elnos BL for the $14.9 M (€13.5 M) Kragujevac – Kraljevo project, and with substations’ upgrades, the section of the Trans-Balkan Electricity Corridor is worth $32.6 M (€29.6 M).

EMS General Manager Jelena Matejić highlighted the significance of the Kragujevac-Kraljevo transmission line for the stability and security of power supply in central Serbia.

The project to connect Kragujevac and Kraljevo with the 60 km transmission line is a part of the corridor’s second phase, which includes the substations on both sides. Kraljevo 3 substation will be upgraded to 400 kV and the Kragujevac 2 substation will be equipped with one 400 kV feeder bay, EMS said and revealed contractors should be picked soon.

The third phase envisages a double circuit 400 kV transmission line of 109 km from Bajina Bašta to Obrenovac and substation upgrades. Next is a double 400 kV link from the western Serbian border via BiH to Montenegro.

The first phase was a double circuit 400 kV line from northeast of Belgrade to the Romanian border. It was finished in December 2017.

The project Kragujevac-Kraljevo is scheduled to begin in a month. Germany’s KfW Development Bank provided a $16.5 M loan.  Another $7.1 M is a grant allocated through the European Union Western Balkans Investment Framework from the European Western Balkans Joint Fund. EMS also invested its own funds.

The Trans-Balkan Electricity Corridor now connects Serbia with Romania and Eastern Europe and it will later link it with Western Europe, Minister of Mining and Energy Aleksandar Antić said.
