Germany: Engie Fabricom is to upgrade the control system on the offshore substation at the 288 MW Butendiek wind farm in the German North Sea.

The fabricator has been contracted by wind farm operator OWP Butendiek GmbH & Co to overhaul the platform’s SCADA system to comply with new cyber security laws, Engie Fabricom said.

The substation’s existing Sicam 230 SCADA will be switched for a Copadata’s Zenon system.

Engie Fabricom said the change, which will be carried out between Q2 and Q4 this year, will improve the lifespan and reliability of the substation.

The contract also includes a 5-year service agreement for the SCADA.

Butendiek began operating and 2014 and features 80 Siemens Gamesa 3.6 MW turbines.
