Entergy Texas finished major transmission project
The final phase of the Western Region Economic Project has brought a series of new substations, transmission lines and upgrades to southeast Texas.

Texas, USA: Customers of Entergy Texas will soon benefit from lower-cost and more reliable power, now that the final phase of the Western Region Economic Project has brought a series of new substations, transmission lines and upgrades to southeast Texas.
The major transmission project involves two separate transmission projects overall. Its eastern section included upgrades to an existing 138 kV line between the existing Newton Bulk Substation and the Leach Substation, completed last year. The more recently completed western section involved construction of a new 230 kV transmission line between the Lewis Creek Substation and the Rocky Creek Substation.
“We are committed to continue investing in the community to help move the economy forward – all while taking efforts to keep customer rates low”, said Sallie Rainer, president and CEO of Entergy Texas.
With the addition of the 230 kV western line, Entergy Texas added a power path to reduce congestion on several existing lines in the transmission system and bolster reliability overall. Other goals include increased operational flexibility to better address maintenance outages and reliability during storms, which provide an ongoing threat to the utility’s 461,000 customers.
