Ethiopia earned $32 M from power exports
Ethiopia earned $32.6 M from exporting electricity to neighbouring Sudan and Djibouti, the state power entity announced.

Ethiopia, Addis Ababa: Ethiopia earned $32.6 M from exporting electricity to neighbouring Sudan and Djibouti, the state power entity announced.
The figure, the Ethiopian Electric Power (EPP) said, was secured during the last five months of the Ethiopian fiscal year, which begins in September.
EPP’s Director of Communications, Moges Mekonen, said that 580 million kWh of electricity had been supplied to the two countries.
He further said the income obtained during the five months has dropped by $6.2 M compared to the same period of the previous year.
According to Mekonen, the decline was due to reduced demand from the Sudanese electricity company, for which he did not divulge further details.
Last year, Ethiopia reportedly earned more than $95 M from electric energy export to the two east African countries.
In addition, the Horn of Africa is investing billions of dollars in constructing a mega-dam project, counting on becoming the regional power hub.
