Ethiopia, Debre Tabor: EEP to construct a substation and transmission line in two Ethiopian regions to expand electricity access.

Ethiopia’s power producer, Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP), will construct a substation and transmission line in two regions of Ethiopia in order to increase access to electricity.

The state power producer said a kilometre-long new 230 kV transmission line at Debre Tabor will be constructed from the existing Bahir Dar-Alamata 230 kV line project as line in and line out to the new Debre Tabor substation.

“And 230 kV transmission line that has a total length of 1.135 kilometres from existing Melka Wakena to Koka 230 kV line as line in and line out to the new Bokoji substation will be constructed.”

The EEP said the Debre Tabor and Bekoji high voltage power supply transmission line project will ensure a regular and sustainable supply of electricity, encourage industries to use renewable and carbon emission-free electric power, encourage new industries and reduce dependence on oil, and contribute to Ethiopia’s economic development.

EEP also recently stated that Ethiopia had secured over $83 M in revenue from exporting electricity to Djibouti, Kenya and Sudan over the past 10 months, supplying a total of 12,126 GW hours of electric power.
