Chile, Santiago: Chilean utility Colbun SA announced the energisation of the first turbines at its 816 MW Horizonte wind farm in northern Chile. Eight wind turbines were energised in May, having contributed 1.3 GWh to the grid since May 13. A total of 140 Enercon turbines will be installed, and the project is over 80% complete, with 81 turbines installed so far.

At full capacity, the project will be capable of generating 2450 GWh of electricity annually. It is located in the Atacama Desert at a site that Colbun secured under a concession in a public tender organised by the Chilean ministry of national assets. The utility aims to expand the wind farm by 180 MW with the addition of 24 new turbines of up to 7.5 MW. It submitted the environmental impact assessment for the proposed expansion in March 2024.
