Guyana, Georgetown: The Guyana Energy Agency (GEA) has launched bidding to connect two small-scale hydroelectric plants to a local grid.

The project includes the construction of a 17 km, 13.8 kV transmission line and communication infrastructure to link the 1.5 MW Kumu and 0.7 MW Moco Moco plants to Lethem Power’s system. GEA has announced that offers for the design, supply, installation, testing, and commissioning contract are due by January 11.

The work falls under a hinterland electrification program which was financed in part by the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB). Sri Lankan company Vidullanka holds a 24-month, US$12.9mn EPC contract for the plants awarded at the end of last year. Guyana also has bidding underway for the 165 MW Amaila Falls hydro project.
