Switzerland, Basel: HAEFELY has presented its 1500 kV PGR DC generator, designed for superimposed voltage testing on 640 kV DC cables. A manufacturer for AC cable testing for decades, the company has developed a new product range for HVDC cable testing. HVDC-based cable systems are a cornerstone for a successful energy transition and the global demand for them is increasing. This prompts cable manufacturers to invest in production and testing facilities, while standards and routine test requirements are being established. Some of the tests are technically challenging to perform, which means companies such as HAEFELY must develop reliable solutions.
One such product is the PGR 400 kV DC module, designed to meet market needs for HVDC cable testing in laboratories and onsite. The module can be used indoors and outdoors and can be stacked to reach up to 2000 kV DC. Numerous installations have been developed in a short span, together with accessories such as damping resistors, coupling capacitors, DC cable terminations, and DC chopping gaps.
