Jordan, Amman: According to Jordan’s energy and mineral resources minister Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, the Jordan-Saudi Arabia electricity interconnection project is in the final stages with technical studies completed. At the moment, the parties are negotiating on the exact amount of power and timing of supply. An agreement was signed between the two nations in 2020 to develop the 164 km interconnection between Qurayyat in Saudi Arabia and East Amman.

The minister also said that talks were underway with Egypt to increase the interconnection capacity to 1100 MW from the current 550 MW. He added that the second phase will  see the capacity reach 2000 MW. In September 2023, it was announced that Jordan would soon supply 50 MW of electricity to Iraq and was working to upgrade the capacity of its border power stations to boost supplies.
