Croatia, Zagreb: Croatian electrical equipment manufacturer Končar – Elektroindustrija announced that its unit Končar – Distribution and Special Transformers (D&ST) has teamed up with the Swedish electricity distribution company Ellevio, to develop environmentally friendly transformers for the green transition. The companies have initiated a pilot project to manufacture ten distribution transformers with rated capacities of 100 and 800 kVA, using high-quality thyssenkrupp Electrical Steel’s bluemint steel. According to the company, such steel, produced using hydrogen, reduces CO2 emissions by up to 50% compared to traditional methods, while maintaining all the properties of conventional transformer steels.”

The pilot project aims to meet the needs of the Swedish local grid, including the installation of about seven kilometres of new cable in the Gullspang area, northeastern Sweden. Along with the cables, three new substations in which Ellevio plans to use the new transformers will be set up.
