Croatia, Zagreb: KONČAR has secured a valuable new project in the global market. The company has undertaken the revitalization of the Vidraru Hydropower Plant with a capacity of 4 x 67.3 MVA in Romania. The contract was signed by KONČAR – Engineering as part of a consortium with Romanian company Electromontaj S.A. The scope of work includes design, production, delivery, dismantling of existing equipment, installation of new equipment, testing, and commissioning. The contract is valued at over €188 million ($202 million), with KONČAR’s share amounting to nearly €80 million.

The Vidraru plant, with an installed capacity of 220 MW and an average annual electricity production of 400 GWh, was built between 1961 and 1966 as a peak load plant on the Arges River. It is significant for the Romanian energy system. Its revitalization will improve its performance, extend its lifespan, and strengthen the energy system. The customer is S.P.E.E.H. Hidroelectrica, the largest electricity producer in Romania, generating a net annual production of 15.6 TWh with an installed hydropower capacity of 6.3 GW. The company owns and operates 182 hydropower plants, five pumping stations, and one wind farm, located across eight different geographical regions in Romania.

“We are extremely proud of this significant collaboration, which represents yet another confirmation of KONČAR’s high competitiveness in the global market. We highly value the fact that such a serious and relevant European company in the electricity production segment recognized our expertise, skills, and the quality and breadth of our business portfolio in an international tender,” said Gordan Kolak, President of KONČAR’s Management Board.
