Germany: Transmission system operator 50Hertz has awarded a consortium of Dragados Offshore and Siemens Energy a contract for the delivery of offshore and onshore converters for the LanWin3 North Sea grid connection project. The EPCI contract encompasses all engineering services, component procurement, construction, transportation, and installation of the 2 GW systems on land and at sea. The contract is worth about €2.9 billion.

The offshore platform will be constructed at Dragados Offshore’s yard in Cádiz, Spain, while Siemens Energy will produce the components at European production sites. The onshore DC-AC converter will be located near Schwerin, Mecklenburg.

LanWin3 will establish a 200 km connection between an offshore wind farm in the German North Sea and a grid connection point in the Heide area of North Friesland, connecting to the new NordOstLink HVDC transmission line.
