Myanmar: The Ministry of Electricity & Energy is seeking private developers to build and operate up to 1 GW of PV solar capacity at up to 30 sites around the country.

Myanmar’s Ministry of Electricity and Energy subsidiary Electric Power Generation Enterprise has invited developers to submit proposals for a programme to develop several solar plants with a combined total capacity of 1 GW.

The projects will be developed under the independent power producer (IPP) model through build-own-operate contracts. Up to 30 solar plants with capacities of between 30 MW to 40 MW are expected to be developed under the programme.

The PV solar IPPs will have a concession period of 20 years.

The client had set an initial bid submission date of 18 June, but has moved the bid deadline to 20 July to allow for the disruption caused by the Covid-19 outbreak.

By the end of 2019, Myanmar had 88 MW of installed PV solar capacity.
