Philippines, Manila: The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) successfully energized the Mindanao-Visayas Interconnection Project (MVIP).

The project comprises a 184 ckm high-voltage direct current (HVDC) submarine transmission line to connect Mindanao and Visayas. Over 500 ckm of overhead lines have been installed to enable electricity to be transported smoothly.

The objective of the project is to improve country’s power stability and reliability. Its value is estimated at $933 M (PHP 52 B).

NGCP plans to slowly increase the transfer capacity of the project, in order to reach 50 MW by mid-May 2023 and 112 MW by the end of May 2023.  The project is expected to achieve full capacity of 450 MW by the third quarter of 2023.

NGCP is actively finishing remaining project elements and plans to scale up the facility’s transfer capacity in the following months.
