Mozambique: The Cuamba – Marrupa power transmission line and the Marrupa substation, in Niassa province, northern Mozambique, were recently inaugurated by President Filipe Nyusi, the local press reported.

The project is part of a wider plan to increase the quality of energy supply in Niassa and surrounding areas, costing around $54.5 M funded by the government and partners.

The Cuamba-Marrupa 110 kV line and Marrupa substation will improve the quality of transmission and distribution of electricity as well the access to electricity, reliability, and quality of supply to both the existing and potential consumers in Niassa province and the surrounding areas.

Before the completion of the new transmission line, which is 240 km long, the connection between these two points of the province was provided by a 33 kV medium voltage line, which made it impossible to design and implement socio-economic development programmes.

State power company Electricidade de Moçambique (EdM), will install 25,000 new connections in Niassa province by 25 September.
