Germany, Itzehoe: Schleswig-Holstein Netz AG (SH Netz) is investing around €750,000 in a new, high-performance transformer in the Itzehoe-Mitte substation.

The investment is to ensure the long-term supply of electricity to customers. After a journey of around 750 km, the 110/60 kV large transformer manufactured by SGB-SMIT GmbH in Regensburg has recently arrived at the construction site in Gasstrasse by heavy load transport. Here the approximately 80 T transformer was moved to its final location and placed on the prepared foundations.

The 7.40 m long, 3.92 m wide and 4.82 m high transformer has an output of 50 MVA. The commissioning of the large transformer, which is to supply customers in the Kellinghusen district, among other things, will take place this week.

The new 50 MVA transformer is connected to the Hohenlockstedt, Kellinghusen and Brokstedt substations via a 60 kV overhead line and is also used to absorb renewable energies in this region.

“By replacing the large transformer and the high-voltage components, we are ensuring the usual high security of supply for our customers in the Kellinghusen office,” says Andre Linnenschmidt, head of the responsible network centre at SH Netz in Dägeling.

The four transformers in the Itzehoe-Mitte substation have a total output of 153 MVA. In addition to the new 50 MVA transformer, SH Netz operates a 40 MVA and two 31.5 MVA transformers. The technical systems are monitored and controlled 365 days a year by SH Netz’s central network control centre in Rendsburg.
