New mega floating solar plant in Madhya Pradesh

India: Tata Power Solar Systems Ltd has received the letter of award of setting up a floating solar project for NHDC Ltd.

The $75 M (Rs.596 crore) contract entails building of a 12 MWp floating solar power project at the Omkareshwar reservoir in the Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh.

The floating solar power project is to be among the largest such in the country, a release from Tata Power said.

The project will be commissioned within 13 months from the date of letter of award and will provide sustainable power to Madhya Pradesh Power Management Company Ltd.

Speaking on the win, Ashish Khanna, CEO, Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd said, “This is a significant project for Tata Power Solar and we are honoured to collaborate with NHDC. This partnership will highlight our working and project execution diversity to promote green energy across sectors. Floating solar projects are the game changer for the renewable industry. This project is a true reflection of our ability to pioneer world-class solar projects within a short period of time.”

With this win, the total utility-scale solar project portfolio of TPSSL has reached 9.8 GWp. It may be mentioned that Tata Power holds 93.94 % stake in TPREL, while NHDC is a joint venture of NHPC Ltd and Government of Madhya Pradesh.
