India, Goa, Mormugao: Minister for Urban Development Milind Naik said that the power problem faced by the people of Mormugao constituency has been resolved with the laying of underground cabling and also with the commissioning of new substation, estimated to cost of $8.8 M (Rs66.70 crores).

“The substation was proposed during my tenure as a Power Minister. I thank the incumbent Power Minister Nilesh Cabral for providing all assistance and support to commission the long awaited project”, said Naik. He disclosed that the substation, which is lying in the jurisdiction of Mormugao Port Trust (MPT), has caused hardship to the employees of the power department during the restrictions laid down due to the security aspects by the Port authorities. “We will maintain the substation at MPT and it would continue serving the people”, added Naik.

“The commissioning of the new substation would cater to hundreds of residents from Sada, Bogda, Baina and other surrounding areas. The uninterrupted power supply from this new substation will share the load for the next 15 to 20 years. The 11 kV underground feeders will provide uninterrupted power supply, unlike overhead lines which are subject to atmospheric conditions causing interruption”, informed Naik.
