India: PGCIL has commissioned an interstate transmission system (ISTS) scheme in Rajasthan, won under the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) mechanism.

Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) announced that on December 20, 2023, it fully commissioned the transmission scheme, officially denoted as “Transmission system strengthening scheme for evacuation of power from solar energy zones in Rajasthan (8.1 GW) under Phase II – Part A.” According to information available with T&D India, the scheme has been housed under project SPV “Powergrid Ramgarh Transmission Ltd” that was known as “Ramgarh New Transmission Ltd” when it was incorporated by bid process coordinator REC Power Development & Consultancy Ltd (RECPDCL).

The scheme is part of an overall plan of evacuating 8.1 GW of solar energy from Rajasthan spread over Bhadla (1.05 GW), Fatehgarh (2.2 GW), Ramgarh (1.9 GW) and Bikaner (2.95 GW) solar energy zones.

The major elements of this project are a 400 kV double-circuit line from Ramgarh-II to Fatehgarh-II substations (44 km), a 400 kV double-circuit line from Ramgarh-II to Jaisalmer-II substations (50 km), and the 400/200 kV Ramgarh-II substation (to be known as Fatehgarh-III). The project is estimated to cost Rs 350 crore ($42 million).
