USA: Penelec has upgraded the substation near Roaring Spring, at the corner of Cove Mountain Road (State Route 164) and SR 36.

A Penelec spokesman said that the upgrades were started in late 2019 and have included $ 100,000 worth of improvements. Poles have been replaced and worn switches have been replaced and lubricated so that “everything works as intended.”

The substation has five powered circuits to serve the area and demand during the summer can get high as air conditioning use peaks.

“All the power running through the station makes the equipment hot and when the weather is hot, it never really gets to cool down,” said Todd Meyers, Penelec spokesman. Meyers said that the improvements should reduce the number of power outages that the Cove experiences. “We put our eyes on this station because of the outages,” Meyers said. “We began to replace equipment as we saw the need for more work to be done there.”

The repairs and maintenance work should make the station “reliable for years to come,” he said.
