Short-circuit withstand tests are usually performed in short-circuit testing laboratories, not at the transformer factories. However, transformer testing engineers should understand the principle of this test as well. The aim of this lesson is to explain the basics and the most important information about short-circuit withstand testing of power transformers.

Keywords: power transformers, transformer testing, short-circuit withstand test

The author of the lesson and the presenter is Mr. Balazs Sztari. He graduated as an electrical engineer in Budapest. Besides factory acceptance tests, his team performs commissioning, diagnostics and R&D tests on power transformers and rotating machines. He is currently a member of Cigre A2.53 working group.
