Ado Ekiti, Nigeria: The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has signed a pact with the Government of Ekiti State to build 13,233 kV transmission lines in Ado Ekiti – Ilupeju and Ado Ekiti – Ijesha Ishu. TCN will also build two-unit 60 MVA 132 / 33 kV substations at the two sites.

The state Governor, Kayode Fayemi, represented by his Deputy, Bisi Egbeyemi, said Ekiti now had only one 132 kV transmission substation which was very inadequate for the state. The projects, when completed, would provide prospects for industry growth. The Commissioner for Public Utilities, Dele Fadahunsi, said the MoU signified effort to improve power supply and positively impact economic activities in the lives of the 82,300 electricity consumers within the 134 communities in the 16 local government areas of the state.

The Managing Director of TCN, Usman Gur Mohammed, represented by the Head, Transmission Service Provider (TSP) of TCN, Victor Adewumi, said TCN would start all the projects at once.

Mohammed said on completion of the projects by June 2021, the voltage profile of electricity in the state would normalise.

The MoU puts the responsibility of providing the Right of Way (RoW) for the transmission project and the provision of land for the projects on the Government of Ekiti State.
