The SIMAFLEX series of extra high voltage substation connectors and clamps from TE Connectivity (TE), is specifically designed for stranded bare conductors in AC and DC applications up to 550 kV in both metric and imperial sizes.

The SIMAFLEX assembly includes mechanical support, derivations, connections to terminal equipment such as studs and pads, transition connection to rigid aluminum busbars, as well as accessories like earthing stirrups and spacers, to help control and ensure power flow, especially in aging infrastructures.

According to TE Product Manager Mike Martini, “Our substation fittings are tailor-made and produced with components in stock allowing us to fulfill ‘made-to-order’ solutions around the world in just a few weeks. Plus, they can be quickly and easily installed with stainless steel U bolts to hold the conductor while mounting the two external keepers.”

Its modular, versatile design enables users to adapt the SIMAFLEX to customers’ requirements by offering made-to-order connectors using components kept in stock. Each component is designed to withstand the exacting material and mechanical strength required in extra high voltage substations. These properties help to make the substation connector system suitable for new and retrofit applications while reducing waste and improving lead times.

Sizes for aluminum stranded conductors range from 266.8 – 3,500 mcm (0.609 – 2.159 in) and transition connections to aluminum tubular connectors from 0.10 – 0.24 mm (2.5 – 6 in) for both NPS and EHPS dimensions.  Connections for single, twin, triplex and quad connectors range from 45 – 100 mm (4- 8 in). The system is ANSI / NEMA and DIN compliant.
