The Netherlands, Eemshaven: On 2 September, TenneT inaugurated a new high-voltage substation on Middenweg in Eemshaven, built entirely for wind and solar energy.

The 110 kV substation is part of a grid reinforcement development for the growing supply of sustainably generated energy in Eemshaven, the company said.

In addition, TenneT has laid a 9 km underground cable connection from the new substation to the existing Eemshaven Robbenplaat substation.

TenneT said together with Enexis Netbeheer it is fully engaged in increasing the transmission capacity in the Northern Netherlands.

“This is necessary because of the growing supply of sustainably generated energy,” the company said.

TenneT is also building a 380 kV connection between the Eemshaven substation and the Vierverlaten substation near Groningen, and is expanding the Vierverlaten substation.

This new ‘power highway’ replaces the existing 220 kV connection, the company added.

Pending commissioning in 2023, TenneT will commission a temporary 380 kV substation in Eemshaven in October 2020.
