India, Ahmedabad: Transformers & Rectifiers India Limited (T&D) has undertaken a project to design an environmentally friendly extra high voltage reactor POWERGRID.

T&R has endeavoured to design and manufacture extra high voltage reactor filled with environmentally friendly and biodegradable natural ester fluid for Powergrid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID).

The company has successfully designed and manufactured 50 MVAr, 3-phase, 420 kV shunt reactor filled with ester fluid, which successfully passed routine and type tests.

It is the first 420 kV ester fluid filled shunt reactor successfully designed and manufactured in the world.

Natural ester fluid is a vegetable seed-based fluid derived from renewable agricultural seed crops. Application of ester fluids at increasingly higher voltage levels provides customers a high performance, safe and green solution.

T&R has already supplied more than a hundred of ester filled transformers and reactors for various utilities and customers all over India. The company is manufacturing transformers and reactors with alternative insulating fluids up to EHV class.

The 420 kV shunt reactor is filled with FR3 natural ester fluid and will be installed in one of POWERGRID’s substations.

Transformers and Rectifiers India Ltd. is led by Chairman J. U. Mamtora, who stated on the occasion: “We are always committed to a greener future. Demonstrating once again its capabilities, the company is geared up with in-house design and technology setup and manufacturing facilities to meet challenges in manufacturing eco-friendly green transformers and reactors.”
