Transformers Magazine cordially invites all interested parties including academic researchers, professional engineers, electrical utilities and consultants, as well as component and material manufacturers to take part in our Special Edition issue focusing on new trends.

The technological and business environment of our industry is undergoing intensive and rapid changes. As suggested by our readers and editors, the May 2022 Special Edition is dedicated to new trends, with a special emphasis on: transformer industry evolution during the pandemic, in the fields of procurement, delivery, field service, and other, remote FAT, latest standards and guides (IEC, IEEE, Cigre, etc.), and reliability standards.

In that respect, Transformers Magazine in 2021 carried out a comprehensive research into technology and market trends, having presented it to the industry through Transformers Magazine’s Industry Navigator report 2021, as well as interactively at Transformers Magazine’s Industry Navigator conference 2021.

The research has shown that given the accelerated development and impact of regulations, but also due to the impact of the pandemic, certain trends from the field of sustainability, digitalisation, e-mobility, etc., have become increasingly prevalent. The influence of these trends has reflected on the requirements through the entire value chain–from materials, especially insulation (both solid and liquid), to components (bushings, tap-changers, monitoring) and transformers. This in the end opens up new opportunities for all market players who make sure to duly prepare for them. It is noteworthy that business barriers are also changing in this volatile environment, which should also be considered.

Reflecting on the impact of the pandemic-induced crisis on the business results, 30 % respondents have stated that 2020 was a better year than 2019, while 25 % of respondents have said it was worse. For 2021, 43 % of respondents expect better results, unlike 14 % of those who expect the results to be lower, which confirms a significant recovery of the industry. Available information indicate that 2022 should be even better, given the major issues in the procurement chain are in the meantime resolved.

With this edition, we wish to give an opportunity to all interested parties for presenting their ideas on technology, business and innovations, as well as to support them on the way to practical application.
