The transformer and related equipment manufacturing ownership landscape has been re-shaped with some significant M&A transactions taking place over the last two years. As is customary with M&As, these transactions are not always widely published and are only announced de facto.
In the most recent months, we have seen ownership changes taking place in Ireland, Belgium, Hungary, Indonesia, and Pakistan, and Transformers Magazine extensively reported on these transactions. Whilst a change in ownership is not uncommon, the emergence of new power players from new regions is quite significant. We have also seen examples of a government declaring a transformer factory a company of national interest, thus ensuring that the company remains in local ownership through its intervention in the liquidation process.

The most significant changes in the geographical ownership landscape in the recent months occurred in the Middle East where the stock exchange listed company, Electrical Industry Company from Saudi Arabia, and Elsewedy Electric from Egypt were on the acquisition trail.
Are these geographical players about to become significant global players? What opportunities does the demise of the Indian CG Power Systems hold for new players? Are there new players ready to compete with the likes of Siemens Energy or Hitachi ABB?
These changes in market dynamics prompted the Transformers Magazine to critically look at recent and envisaged mergers and acquisitions in the transformer manufacturing industry and investigate what these transactions entailed, as well as the role industry specialists play in M&A transactions, and perhaps more importantly, whether M&A transactions can be expected in the months to come.
After conducting extensive research of technology and market trends, Transformers Magazine is now focused on research on mergers and acquisitions.
