TRIL lands transformer order

Transformers & Rectifiers (TRIL) has announced the winning of an order from Gujarat Energy Transmission Corporation, for the supply of transformers.

India, Gujarat: Transformers & Rectifiers Ltd (TRIL) has announced the winning of an order from state utility Gujarat Energy Transmission Corporation Ltd, for the supply of transformers.

The order worth $13 M (Rs. 98 crore) took TRIL’s outstanding order book position to $162 M (Rs.1,202 crore), as of 28 November 2020, the company in a stock exchange filing.

In an investor presentation, TRIL said that the company’s performance in Q2 (July to September) of FY21 was better than the corresponding period of FY20. However, in the first half (April to September), there was a year-on-year decline in sales. Total income during H1 of FY21 was around 14.2 % lower than that in H1 of FY20.

With respect to physical sales (measured in terms of MVA), the company did well in the “below 220 kV” class. In H1 of FY21, the company sold 4446 MVA worth of transformers in the sub-220 kV category, marking a 32.2 % growth over the comparable 3364 MVA in H1 of FY20. However, in terms of the “220 kV-plus” category, physical sales were 18.4 % lower.

TRIL has reported its transformer sales under three buyer categories – utilities (power and railway), industry (including renewables) and exports. In H1 of FY21, utilities had a lower share of 45 % in overall sales (in value terms) as against 51 % in H1 of FY20. The industry category saw its share improve to 48 % from 44 %, by the same comparison. Exports also did well with their share growing to 7 % in H1 of FY21 from 5 % in H1 of FY20.

TRIL’s outstanding order book position, as of 31 October 2020, stood at $153 M (Rs.1,135 core). Though the company did not specify the total year-to-date order inflow during FY21, the presentation did mention the receipt of a diversity of orders from Central and state power utilities, private sector companies and renewable energy companies, apart from export mandates. In Q1 of FY21, TRIL had reported an order inflow of $19 M (Rs.143 crore).
