USA, Seattle: The Washington State Department of Commerce has announced 14 grants worth about $8.1 million through the Clean Energy Fund (CEF) for projects related to clean energy technologies. This will support the planning and development of new projects and construction of projects completing the design phase. The projects will create jobs, including positions in construction and specialized maintenance and operation.

The funds will be awarded to Clallam County PUD, Creative Energy, City of Ellensburg, Energy Northwest, Jefferson County PUD, City of Langley, Lewis County PUD, PacifiCorp, Puget Sound Energy, Puyallup School District, Swinomish Indian Tribal Community, Tacoma Power, Tulalip Tribes and Willapa Bay Enterprises. The types of projects include the design of a microgrid at a substation, smart grid solutions for renewable energy deployment, the design of a solar plus battery storage microgrid, and more.

The projects aim to enable cross-cutting social, environmental and energy burdens on communities. Increased energy resilience, and opportunities to implement new technologies to replace aging infrastructure and deploy clean technologies are expected.
