Switzerland, Rapperswil: Weidmann Electrical Technology has announced an investment of over CHF 50 million ($56.6 million) for the upgrade of its facilities and the development of new sites across its markets. This will enhance its ability to address the immediate higher demands of the industry. The company says it is also reviewing a larger, long-term investment strategy involving a further expansion of its manufacturing footprint. The renovation of existing equipment and facilities where required is included in the planned upgrades, so is the installation of new equipment to boost current production capacity.

The industry is experiencing unprecedented growth, forecast to continue for the next decade. This surge, or energy transition, is driven by increased electrification and energy demand, renewable energy integration, technological advancements (such as data centers for AI), and strong regulatory and policy support. Weidmann Electrical Technology acknowledges the necessity of scaling operations to meet customer needs and expectations. The investments have already started, and additional phases are envisioned over the next 12 to 18 months.

Jurg Brunner, Head of Weidmann Electrical Technology, stated, “The demand for material is increasing globally, driven by the need for transformer producers to provide replacement and significant extension of the grid infrastructure and equipment to service the energy transition. Our goal is to ensure that we can continue to support our customers throughout this period, maintaining our high-quality levels while supplying the additional material required to ensure we are enablers in the energy transition process.”
