SF6 is 25,200 times more potent than CO2 and has a lifespan of 3,200 years in the atmosphere. It is extensively used in gas-insulated switchgear and other electrical equipment (gas-insulated lines, gas-insulated switches, transformers, etc.) due to its excellent dielectric and arc quenching properties and reduction in electrical equipment size leading to resource minimization. Since MV switchgear market is set to expand due to renewables’ share of electricity generation being projected to reach ~ 40 % by 2030, there is a case for encouraging investment in SF6 alternatives.

Our speakers include Saifa Khalid and Muhammad Usman with Maleeha Tariq being the moderator of the discussion.

Saifa is the lead switchgear analyst and Power Grid team lead at Power Technology Research. She is involved in developing coherent methodologies for PTR’s syndicated services and custom consulting projects for various clients across the world. The topics under her mandate include HV switchgear, MV switchgear, power transformers, distribution transformers, substation automation and power factor correction etc. She has a bachelor’s degree in Power Engineering from University of Engineering and Technology, Pakistan.

Usman is an analyst in the Power Grid team at Power Technology Research. He works with clients on various projects related to transmission and distribution equipment. He has a background in engineering and has been employed in the energy sector as a researcher for 5 years. Previously, he was part of the Energy Policy team at a USAID project that oversaw market reforms in Pakistan’s electricity sector. Usman graduated with a master’s in Energy Systems Engineering in 2019 from National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Pakistan.

Maleeha is the Content Marketing Manager at Power Technology Research. She is involved in strategy making and management for all marketing efforts including content, events, etc. She leads a team that is vastly involved in writing content, designing visuals for all services and the website, generating leads through fruitful external engagements, and the overall visibility of Power Technology Research’s brand. Maleeha graduated with a master’s in Business Administration (MBA) in 2022 from the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Pakistan.
